About the farmer and farm
Hambella is one of the high-altitude coffee districts of the Guji zone, where coffee grows at 2095-2122 meters above sea level.
The coffee comes from small family farms that deliver freshly picked cherries to the Guji Hambella station for processing.
The coffee trees grow in the shade of cordia, acacia, and enset, which softens direct sunlight and helps keep the soil moist.
This lot is made up of the local Ethiopian varieties Kumie, Diga, and Wilsho.
Processing: natural
Ripe red cherries are hand-sorted to remove lower-density fruit.
The whole cherries, not depulped, are sun-dried on raised beds. The station has more than 215 beds, each with its own code for tracking lots.
Drying takes about 21 days with regular turning and protection from rain, and the dry husk is removed mechanically.
