About the farmer and farm

Jane Wanjiku Kiriri-Kamau is the founder and farmer behind WanRich Coffee, a small plantation in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, in western Kenya.

After a long career in banking, she started her specialty coffee farm in 2015, moving entirely away from growing maize and raising livestock to cultivating coffee trees.

The farm sits at 1800 meters above sea level, on fertile volcanic soils on the western slopes of Mount Elgon, growing the SL28, SL34, Batian, and Ruiru 11 varieties.

Jane follows strict organic farming practices. She's given up pesticides entirely, hand-weeds exclusively, and gets agronomic support from the Coffee Research Institute in Kenya.

Processing: washed

Ripe cherries are hand-picked and pulped the same day without using water, then go through double fermentation: soaked for 13–15 hours, washed, and soaked again for 12–13 hours overnight.

After a final wash, the parchment coffee is sun-dried on raised beds for 10–11 days, carefully covered during peak sun hours for even drying.
