About the farmer and farm
The Gelan Abaya washing station sits in the Guji zone of West Oromia, at 2095-2122 meters above sea level.
The climate is mild, with average temperatures of 17-20 °C and around 878 mm of rain a year. The coffee trees grow in the shade of cordia, acacia, and enset.
The station has 10 standardized fermentation tanks and more than 215 drying beds, each with its own code for tracking lots.
This lot uses the Gesha variety.
Processing: natural
Ripe red cherries are hand-picked and sorted to remove lower-density fruit.
The whole cherries, not depulped, are spread on raised drying beds, turned regularly, and covered overnight and during rain.
Drying takes about 21 days, and the dry husk is removed mechanically during hulling.
