About the farmer and farm

The Utengule farm takes its name from the neighboring village.

Bourbon and its sub-varieties are the main cultivar grown here.

The coffee trees always grow shaded by local flora. This slows ripening and lets the cherries build up maximum sugar content.

Harvest runs from May to August, followed by the farm's signature processing methods — mostly washed, honey, and various experimental processes.

Processing: honey

The cherries are hand-picked and sorted.

Mechanical depulping follows next, removing part of the fruit flesh.

The cherries are sorted once more and laid out on African beds to dry for about 10 days. Storage and stabilization follow.
